Maximizing the Utility of the Telemedicine Visit in the COVID-19 Era

This activity focuses on ways in which telemedicine continues to evolve as a way to connect with patients with rheumatic disease. Included in this activity are a series of “mock” telemedicine visits, along with expert analysis of these visits, that serve to highlight some of the keys to a successful telemedicine experience both for the patient and provider.

Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of rheumatology nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. Other healthcare providers may also participate.

Learning Objectives and Goals:
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Identify the current opportunities and potential barriers to the implementation of telemedicine visits throughout the United States.
  2. Describe the key components of a telemedicine visit.
  3. Assess the evidence supporting the use of telemedicine in patient care.
  4. Incorporate skills introduced within this education into real-life clinical care

Accreditation Statement
The Rheumatology Nurses Society is accredited with distinction as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (Provider No. P0500).

Participants will receive 1.0 hours of continuing nursing contact hours by completing the education, completing an online evaluation, and receiving a post-test score of 70%.
