Barbara Kienzle, BSN, RN

Barbara Kienzle, BSN, RN

Barbara currently resides in Georgia where she works as a pediatric rheumatology nurse Clinician at Augusta Georgia. She studied nursing at Iowa Wesleyan College and has been practicing rheumatology since 2010. Barbara contributed to the 2nd Edition of Rheumatology Scope and Standards of Practice and served as the Medical Director of Camp Joint Venture, a summer camp for children with rheumatic conditions. She firmly believes in being the voice for her patients and their families to ensure they get the medications and services necessary to treat their disease and cope with chronic illness. Her hope is to help bring the Pediatric Rheumatology nursing community together to be a strong united voice, raising awareness of the unique needs of the pediatric rheumatology population, especially to pharmaceutical companies and insurance carriers.

Teri Puhalsky, RN, CRNI

Teri Puhalsky, RN, CRNI

Teri Puhalsky currently resides in Maryland where she works as an Infusion RN at Medstar Orthopedic Institute. She studied nursing at Excelisor College School of Nursing and has been practicing rheumatology since 2007. Teri received the Outstanding Clinical Performance Award as an LPN, obtained her CRNI in 2012, and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International-PhiPi Chapter. She strives for positive patient outcomes and firmly believes that collaboration with the healthcare team is critical for chronic disease management. With a patient-focused and evidence-based nursing practice, she knows all patients can receive quality, safe, and effective care. 

Carolyn Zic, MSN, FNP-BC

Carolyn Zic, RN, BSN, CPN

Carolyn Zic currently resides in New Lenox, Illinois where she works as a pediatric rheumatology nurse at Comer Children’s Hospital at the University of Chicago Medicine. She studied nursing at Madonna University and has been practicing pediatric rheumatology since 2011. In 2018, Carolyn was recognized as the Chicago area Arthritis Foundation Medical Honoree for her excellence and compassionate care to patients and their families. She firmly believes in patient advocacy and treasures the bond that she has created with her patients over the years.

The RNS is a non-profit professional nursing and advanced practice provider (APP) organization representing registered nurses (RNs), nurse practitioners (NPs), physician assistants (PAs), and other healthcare professionals who are engaged in clinical practice, education, and research for the care of patients with rheumatic diseases.

Participants have the potential for receiving a maximum of 1.5 continuing nursing contact hours. The Rheumatology Nurses Society is accredited with distinction as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (Provider No. P0500).

This educational initiative will focus on the following objectives:

  1. Identify the specific characteristics of PsA that differentiate the condition from other common rheumatic diseases
  2. Discuss factors that impact overall treatment efficacy in patients with PsA
  3. Assess the current use of FDA-approved biologic agents for the treatment of PsA in your practice, and identify opportunities to better educate patients about efficacy and safety to improve overall adherence
  4. Analyze ways in which PsA-specific disease activity measures can be incorporated into your daily clinical practice
