Keynote Presentation: The American Nurse Session DescriptionThe American NurseCarolyn Jones—author, photographer and filmmaker behind The American Nurse Project and Defining Hope—spent the last ten years interviewing hundreds of nurses from every corner of the United States, a journey that led her to conclude that “without them, we don’t stand a chance.” That was before the global coronavirus pandemic that has thrust our nation’s nurses even further onto the frontlines of healthcare, addressing our physical and emotional needs before sending us back out into the world. In this presentation, Carolyn will share stories of her experience as a patient—her first and most personal introduction to a nurse’s impact—followed by stories of nurses she interviewed and photographed, most recently for her forthcoming documentary In Case of Emergency. The stories include examples of nurses connecting with patients during crucial moments in their healthcare journeys, and how these seemingly insignificant interactions changed the course of the patients’ and families’ lives for the better. Carolyn presents an outsider-looking-in perspective with the goal of inspiring audiences to think of nurses in a way that they may never have before.close |
