Award Overview

The Rheumatology Nurses Society (RNS) strives to recognize and honor the leadership, achievements, and dedication of outstanding nurses who provide excellent care to patients with rheumatologic diseases. This year we will be presenting an Excellence in Rheumatology Nursing Award to a nurse nominated by YOU! Anyone is welcome to nominate a current RNS member for the Excellence in Rheumatology Nursing Award. The award winner will be recognized at the 2023 16th Annual RNS Conference during the President’s Dinner (Friday, August 4, 7:30-9:00 PM CT).

Nomination Process

  • You will be asked to describe the nominee’s qualities and contributions of excellence in rheumatology nursing by using the following LEAD criteria
  • All nominations must be submitted by midnight EST on July 31, 2023
  • Once received, you will receive an acknowledgment of your submission and the nominee will receive notification that they have been nominated
  • All nominations will be reviewed by the Awards Sub-Committee
  • The award recipient will be publicly announced at the 2023 16th Annual RNS Conference during the President’s Dinner (Friday, August 4, 7:30-9:00 PM CT)

    Consistently utilizes the nursing process and is considered by peers to be an exemplary role model in clinical knowledge, assessment, planning, interventions, and evaluation of patient care. Works effectively with the interdisciplinary health care team to ensure quality and safety standards are being met. Anticipates needs of the health care team and takes initiative to help others to achieve quality outcomes. Promotes teamwork while coordinating resources to provide the highest quality of care for patients and caregivers.
  • Education

    Involved in creating and facilitation educational activities that meet the diverse needs of all patients and caregivers. Mentors, educates, and displays an eagerness to expand knowledge of self, peers, patients, and caregivers. Provides continuity of care and incorporates evidence-based practice into daily standards of care. Displays expert knowledge of disease states, medication mechanism of action, and clinical skills necessary to provide the highest of quality patient care.
  • Achievement

    Demonstrates ability to self-assess and takes advantage of opportunities for professional growth and advancement of knowledge base. Member of professional organization(s) to demonstrate support of skilled nursing practice within rheumatology specialty (please list any awards, certifications, or advanced degrees). Enjoys developing relationships with patients and families, excels at patient education, enjoys research opportunities, and is excited by decision-making challenges.
  • Dedication

    Consistently displays ability to anticipate needs of healthcare team, patients, and caregivers while effectively communicating interventional measures to promote positive outcomes within the organization. Promotes teamwork fosters growth and development of peers and encourages ongoing improvement projects within the organization.
