Launching the RNS National Pediatric Chapter: A Community Begins

The launch of the *Rheumatology Nurses Society National Pediatric Chapter was an exciting and affirming moment for our community. The engagement at our first meeting reinforced what many of us in pediatric rheumatology have long known: there is a strong need for a space dedicated to the unique realities of caring for children and families with rheumatic disease.

As my colleagues know, pediatric rheumatology brings clinical, emotional, and practical challenges that differ from adult care. I wanted to create this chapter to foster conversation, peer connection, and shared learning centered specifically on pediatric-focused practice, while also welcoming those looking to expand their understanding across the care continuum.

Our first meeting captured that vision perfectly. We kicked things off with a Jeopardy-style game that challenged pediatric nursing knowledge and created a fun, interactive atmosphere. One moment that stood out was when a newer pediatric rheumatology nurse asked thoughtful questions about practice and patient care, and the group immediately stepped in to share experience and guidance. We were also joined by adult-practicing rheumatology nurses who came to learn more about pediatric care, with one participant sharing, “This is so helpful for our practice.” That exchange underscored the value of creating space for cross-learning and collaboration.

This is just the beginning. I’m looking forward to seeing the now-familiar faces who joined us for our first meeting and welcoming new ones on April 30 at 7:00 PM ET for our next Pediatric Chapter Meeting. We’ll come together for a casual, discussion-based conversation on amplified musculoskeletal pain (AMPS).
