The Virtual 2021 14th Annual Rheumatology Nurses Society (RNS) Conference was a great success, filled with faculty and specialists in rheumatology, and immunology. Each session was packed with useful and relevant information while providing opportunities for our attendees to connect and grow as a community. Of our outstanding faculty, a few we want to highlight are Leonard Calabrese, DO, Alvin F. Wells, MD, PhD., Christopher Palma, MD, ScM, and Lynn C. Smitherman, MD, among many others. Their sessions were critical for our attendees as they discussed the impact of racism on healthcare, applied immunology to autoimmune diseases: COVID-19 as immunology, and lupus nephritis. Throughout the duration of the conference we gave away over 50 prizes, including gift cards, charcuterie boards, a Nintendo Switch Lite, and so much more!
We were also able to show our appreciation and support to members of the RNS community during our President’s Social Hour and Awards ceremony. Among the many awards given out, Emily Jenkins, CRNP, took home this year’s Excellence in Rheumatology Nursing Award (Nurse of the Year) and Karen Towner, Nurse Manager, received the RNS Ambassador Award. Karen has been an active member of the RNS working in our educational peer review content committee, which is a huge part of developing our educational content.

There were many ways our attendees connected with one another and interacted throughout the conference. We hosted our fan-favorite Paint A Picture networking social with Leslie Hanner of Leslie Hanner Art to kick off the conference and had a night full of relaxation and fun. We had a great time networking virtually as attendees shared photos of their creations, with jokes too! Our Chapter Mixer was another great experience where attendees joined us on camera, shared their favorite moments in rheumatology, and talked about how to stay connected throughout the year by joining our National or Local Chapters. Attendees also networked with exhibitors during our exhibitor experience where they gained valuable resources. Each night we ended the evening with “RNS Vibe”, where we handed out unique prizes, recapped the day, and would share news or any exciting announcements
We are already in the depths of planning the 2022 15th Annual RNS Conference.
