Pediatric Rheumatology: An Update for Clinicians

03/21/2020

Pediatric Rheumatology is one of the newest and smallest pediatric subspecialties, with fewer than 250 pediatric rheumatologists in the United States, and several states lacking even a single pediatric rheumatologist. Many general pediatricians and adult rheumatologists must, therefore, have sufficient training to diagnose and potentially manage children with rheumatic disease. Promoting increased awareness is essential for treating rheumatic disease earlier in order to minimize damage and improve patient outcomes. This unique course will focus on closing the gap between clinical experience and practice through expert lectures. The program will include a half-day conference followed by an expert panel discussion. This year’s program includes new topics given by national experts, including lectures on uveitis in children, the potential role of the microbiome in pediatric autoimmune disease, the design and manufacture of biologics, newer therapeutics in the treatment of systemic JIA, as well as musculoskeletal imaging in pediatric rheumatic disease.
